How old the open backlog is

Boston publishes no closure timestamp, so this counts requests still marked open by age. Verified against the live Open311 API: the oldest of these are genuinely still open, not a stale copy.

What the data can and cannot tell you

Service requests filed with BOS:311, the city's non-emergency reporting line.

  • There is no closure timestamp. Resolution time can only be approximated from the last update, so it is not quoted anywhere on this site.
  • Illegal Parking alone is about a fifth of all Boston volume, which is why the category ranking is shown rather than a single headline complaint.
  • History begins 2025-12-25. That is a backfill setting rather than an API limit, so the baselines have not yet seen a full winter.
  • The service catalogue endpoint returns only 8 of the 126 service codes in use, so categories here come from the requests themselves.
